Reminder: New OSHA Electronic Reporting Requirement Due March 2, 2024

  • By Kerri Beatty

Effective January 1, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor issued a final rule that requires certain employers in designated high-hazard industries to electronically submit injury and illness information that they are already required to keep to the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Specifically, establishments with 100 or more employees in certain high-hazard industries must electronically submit information from their Form 300-Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses, and Form 301-Injury and Illness Incident Report to OSHA once a year. These submissions are in addition to submission of Form 300A-Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses.

OSHA opened a portal on its website for submission of the electronic data which can be found here: https://www.osha.gov/injuryreporting/ita.  As a reminder, employers who are required to submit the additional data and information must complete the submission process by March 2, 2024.

To improve data quality, establishments are required to include their legal company name when making electronic submissions to OSHA from their injury and illness records.  The list of designated industries who must submit electronically are identified in Appendix B to Subpart E of the Recordkeeping Rule (29 CFR 1904) which can be found here: https://www.osha.gov/laws-regs/regulations/standardnumber/1904/1904SubpartEAppB.
