As we previously reported, New York City Mayor de Blasio announced a mandate that all New York City public school teachers and staff would be required to get at least one dose of a vaccine by September 27, 2021 or face termination. According to the mandate, Department of Education staff would no longer have the option to submit to weekly testing as an alternative.
On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, a New York State Supreme Court judge issued the temporary restraining order in response to a lawsuit brought against the city by a slew of major municipal unions who oppose Mayor Bill de Blasio’s directive. The judge set a September 22, 2021 court date for the unions to argue against the mandate. Until then, the Judge ruled the city is temporarily restrained from implementing the mandate.
